Christopher E. Sherer

About

Christopher E. Sherer joined Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes, P.C. in 2004. A substantial portion of his practice is devoted to family law, including civil unions, dissolution of marriage (divorce), child custody, visitation, child support, domestic violence, and paternity. Mr. Sherer also assists States Attorney's as a Special Assistant State's Attorney in courts and administrative agencies throughout Illinois. He has argued a number of cases before the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Districts of the Illinois Appellate Court.

Mr. Sherer graduated from law school in 2000, spent two years as a judicial law clerk at the Missouri Court of Appeals in Kansas City, and practiced for two years in Springfield, Illinois concentrating his practice in municipal law, representing various counties, municipalities, and townships.

During his law school career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Mr. Sherer was an editor on the UMKC Law Review and worked as a research assistant. He has several published articles to his credit including; "The Resurgence of Federalism: State Employees and the Eleventh Amendment" in the Hamline Journal of Public Law & Policy, "Partial Terminations of Single Employer ERISA Qualified Retirement Plans", and "Respondeat Superior Liability in Missouri for Injuries Sustained as a Result of Police Pursuits" in the UMKC Law Review.

Mr. Sherer is a member of the Illinois State, Sangamon County, and Montgomery County Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Hillsboro City Council and a member of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department. He has presented at a number of firefighter organizational meetings addressing laws affecting the fire service and has been acknowledged by the State Fire Marshal for such efforts.
